Joint expansion of nationwide legal advisory services for physicians, community health centres, hospitals and professional associations, combining multidisciplinary advice with specialisation in the healthcare sector.

Baker Tilly is continuing to drive forward the expansion of its legal consulting business. Today, the company announced a strategic partnership with pwk & Partner Rechtsanwälte mbB. The Dortmund-based law firm advises healthcare providers and companies across Germany – ranging from general practitioners and medical care centres (MVZ) to hospitals and professional associations. The aim of the partnership is to pool complementary expertise and resources in a targeted manner, whilst sustainably strengthening competitiveness and performance in the market for legal and advisory services within the medical sector.

pwk & Partner is already present at Baker Tilly’s Dortmund office with seven lawyers. Building on successful joint consultancy projects, both firms have now agreed to deepen their strategic cooperation. The focus is on corporate law in the healthcare sector and on licensing, authorisation and remuneration procedures for general practitioners, community health centres and hospitals, as well as on advising pharmaceutical companies. To this end, pwk will in future operate under the name “pwk & Partner Rechtsanwälte mbB – in cooperation with Baker Tilly”; Baker Tilly will also highlight the partnership in its marketing communications.

Strategic expansion of the legal advisory portfolio

The partnership is directly aligned with Baker Tilly’s key strategic objectives. The firm is pursuing an independent growth path in Germany. In the legal advisory sector, too, this involves a partnership-based, broadly diversified business model with a strong focus on client proximity and business impact. “The partnership with pwk & Partner reflects our strategy of complementing organic growth with targeted partnerships and prospective integration,” says Dr Thomas Gemmeke, Managing Partner at Baker Tilly: “In addition to the continuous development of our own services and the expansion of our service portfolio, this enables us to tap into additional growth potential.”

As part of the collaboration, the partners will initially continue to operate independently from a legal and organisational perspective: “Our partnership is designed as a development pathway: following an initial phase, we aim for a deeper integration of pwk & Partner into Baker Tilly,” says Martin Weinand, Partner and Office Coordinator at Baker Tilly in Dortmund: “The partnership enables us to further pool our strengths and expertise in the legal field and offer our clients comprehensive and integrated solutions from a single source.”

Combining multidisciplinary advice with specialisation in the healthcare sector

For pwk & Partner, the partnership opens up new prospects for growth and development: integration into the international Baker Tilly network, as well as access to complementary services, creates additional growth opportunities and strengthens the firm’s market position in the long term. “We share a common understanding with Baker Tilly of business consultancy, high quality and client focus. For us, this partnership is an important step towards driving our development in a targeted manner by combining Baker Tilly’s multidisciplinary consultancy with our specialisation in legal advice for the healthcare sector, thereby jointly offering added value to our clients,” says Peter Peikert, Managing Director and founding partner at pwk & Partner.
