Find out more about the charitable projects supported by Baker Tilly.
For more than ten years, Baker Tilly has supported various projects in the areas of culture, education, child and youth work. The Baker Tilly Foundation is now continuing its long-standing social commitment by providing targeted support for charitable projects.
In the following, we have compiled a selection of projects that are supported by Baker Tilly – also through our foundation.
The association is committed to local culture that is close to the people. The focus is on basic musical training and cultural events. In basic musical education, children in grades 2 and 3 receive elementary musical training from music teachers. The cultural events focus on the promotion of young artists.
The scholarship, which has been awarded three times a year in the exhibitions at KIT-Kunst im Tunnel in Düsseldorf since 2008, is aimed at young artists who have studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf or another art academy and who graduated no more than five years ago. Baker Tilly recently extended the scholarship for a further three years up to and including 2018. The funding project is an unconditional grant that enables young artists to dedicate themselves entirely to their artistic work for a period of time. Baker Tilly provides EUR 12,000 per year, which directly benefits the young artists.
Every year, the “Junge Münchener Philharmonie” organizes the “Mozart+” benefit concert, which is traditionally held in the Cuvilliés Theater of the Munich Residence. Under the direction of artistic director and conductor Mark Mast, the musicians, in addition to performing various works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, always surprise the audience with something unexpected. This year marked the twelfth time the event has taken place.
This is the twelfth year in a row that Baker Tilly has supported the talented young musicians of the “Junge Münchener Philharmonie”. All proceeds from the benefit concert go to the Bavarian Philharmonic Orchestra.
The association pursues exclusively non-profit and charitable purposes for the promotion of youth welfare. This is achieved in particular by providing advice and non-material and material support to the “Chance - Outpatient socio-pedagogical services for juvenile delinquents in the Saarbrücken Regional Association”.
Support for German DKMS in order to be able to conduct registration campaigns.
When a child is hungry, it needs something to eat. It's as simple as that. Actually. But for many parents, feeding their children is a major challenge for a variety of reasons. Socially or economically difficult family circumstances, stressful shift work or being overburdened with parenting - there are many reasons why parents do not provide their children with sufficient food. Among other things, a healthy start to the day is crucial for success at school. This is ensured by the 2,400 volunteer “breakfast seniors”, who provide children with a hearty breakfast at school every day before lessons start.
The charity “EinDollarBrille” (One Dollar Glasses) aims to provide simple and inexpensive support, particularly in third world countries, to all those who are excluded from learning, working and social participation due to their visual impairment. At the heart of the charity's work is a pair of glasses made from a lightweight and flexible spring steel frame, the material costs of which amount to around one dollar and can be easily produced in any remote location using mechanical bending machines.
The idea behind “EinDollarBrille” is quite simple and basically helps Third World countries to help themselves: volunteers and permanent employees train young women and men in rural regions, for example in India, Malawi or Burkina Faso, to become EinDollarBrille opticians and provide them with the resources they need for further production. A team of six can produce around 50,000 pairs of glasses per year with one bending machine and thus establish, on the one hand, their own economic livelihood and, on the other hand, contribute to reducing visual impairment among the poorest of the poor in the region.
The Baker Tilly Foundation supported the project in spring 2019 with a donation of 3,000 euros.
Education is the key to young people's future prospects. The Elbstation Academy initiative of the MPC Münchmeyer Petersen Capital Foundation has been making an important contribution to this for many years. At the heart of the Elbstation Academy are media and theater projects for young people in the 7th to 9th grades of Hamburg district schools. Under professional guidance, they develop their own media and theater productions, which are presented to audiences in Hamburg theaters every six months. In addition to the media and theater groups, Elbstation offers the young people support for their career prospects – through educational counseling, coaching, homework help, and job application training. Elbstation helps them to open up new perspectives for their professional future. In 2010, Baker Tilly decided to support the work of the Elbstation Academy with an annual donation.
Sonnenhof is a meeting center that takes a holistic approach to families. For every age group, there are offers with educational or cultural added value that always focus on what unites everyone: as the educational arm of the Hensoltshöhe Spiritual Foundation, a wide range of further training courses, opportunities for encounters and events are offered under one roof, which are primarily intended to promote the successful creation of a harmonious family life.
Sonnenhof offers comprehensive childcare – through a nursery school, daycare and after-school care – as well as parenting advice and network centers for refugee families. The advice sessions cover topics such as healthy baby nutrition, tips for single parents, care support for relatives of dementia patients and allowing parents of disabled children to exchange experiences. The Christian family center also sees itself as a place for intercultural encounters. Intercultural friendships are formed through activities such as cooking together.
Baker Tilly has been cooperating with the Chair of International Accounting and Auditing at the Technical University of Dortmund since the beginning of 2014. The cooperation includes a cooperation position for postgraduate students as well as the promotion of the best Master’s students specifically as “Audit Talents”. Baker Tilly also supports the Master's seminar and gives a lecture at the Bachelor's course “Group Accounting” in the winter semester. In addition, the cooperation was expanded at the beginning of this year to include the research project “Sustainability reporting in SMEs”.
The Förderverein für krebskranke Kinder Tübingen e.V. supports families in a particularly difficult phase of life, with these three focus areas: Support and relief for the families of children with cancer through a wide range of psychological and social support services and counseling during therapy and as part of aftercare.
When a parent is diagnosed with cancer, children find themselves in an exceptional situation. Flüsterpost e. V. is committed to ensuring that these children are not left alone with their fears and worries. The association offers them comfort, encouragement and hope through age-appropriate support, discussions and creative activities. The aim is to give the children a safe space in which they can express their feelings and show them that they are not alone. With the help of donations and voluntary work, Flüsterpost e. V. makes an invaluable contribution to affected families.
“Help and hope" is a foundation that was set up in 2005 to provide support for children in need at home and abroad. In cooperation with more than 30 companies, the foundation supports children and young people, particularly in the Dortmund area, with regard to health, education, training and leisure. Abroad, “help and hope” works to improve the living conditions of children in war and disaster areas and to combat poverty. At the heart of its aid work is the guiding principle of creating a protective roof for children and young people from socially disadvantaged families and helping them find new courage for the future.
The association aims to provide equal opportunities and support children and young people in becoming responsible personalities and prepare them for the world of tomorrow.
Baker Tilly makes a contribution to sustainable youth work and helps to introduce young people to sailing at an early age and to promote their talents. The IMMAC Sailing Academy e.V. support association is breaking new ground in the promotion of young talent: close cooperation with sailing clubs and schools in Germany is intended to enable pupils and young people to learn to sail at no great cost. The support provided by the association will flow into so-called “sailing working groups”, which are already offered at some schools throughout Germany. In April 2010, the construction of 23 optimists was started for the first time. New boats are added every year thanks to the funding. The fleet has now grown to 53 boats. The Förderverein initially has these boats manufactured by a specialist company in the GRP sector (GRP = glass fiber reinforced plastic) in Germany. Further processing and final production take place at the non-profit Schleswiger Werkstätten in Schleswig and Kappeln in Schleswig-Holstein. The Schleswiger Werkstätten give people with disabilities the opportunity to learn and practice a profession. In 2015, Baker Tilly will cover the costs of building three Optimists, which will be donated to the association. From the 2015 sailing season, the three small sailing boats will be used in the youth department of the Mühlenberg Sailing Club (MSC).
The Lions Club Leipzig Saxonia is organizing the international piano competition “Die jungen musikalischen Löwen” (The Young Musical Lions) for young pianists between the ages of 10 and 17 in cooperation with the traditional music publisher Edition Peters, the Grieg Meeting Place and other partners. The competition continues and simultaneously modernizes the musical tradition of the city of Leipzig. Young piano talents receive additional support from the non-profit Lions Club Leipzig Saxonia and are given the opportunity to present themselves and their musical skills to a wide audience.
The Baker Tilly Foundation has awarded a special prize in each of the two age groups of the competition.
In the heart of Schwerin, the Jumpers project offers children from socially disadvantaged families a place to go. Not only do they cook and eat together once a week – the children also learn how to tend and harvest vegetable patches, have fun in the play corner or browse through books. Every child is welcome and valued. The work of the dedicated staff provides the children with support and important social skills. Targeted donations can be used to provide equipment and materials to further expand the project's diverse activities.
Children and young people who have been victims or witnesses of sexualized, physical and psychological violence will find a child-friendly, multidisciplinary and outpatient contact point in the new premises of the kbo Kinderzentrum München (children's center in Munich). The psychological and medical treatment and socio-educational support provided by the kbo Children's Center Munich as well as child-friendly interrogations are conducted at the center on an interdisciplinary basis under one roof. The aim is always to achieve the best possible clarification of the background as well as the well-being and protection of the children and young people concerned.
The children's home does valuable work in the field of child and youth welfare and supports children and young people in difficult circumstances. We believe that activities and excursions, such as a day of ice skating, enrich the everyday lives of the children and young people and give them unforgettable experiences - experiences that we can make possible with a donation.
“Put life into their days, and not days into their life.” This thought by Cicely Saunders, founder of the hospice movement, is also the basis of the work of Düsseldorf's Regenbogenland. The facility sees itself as a place of life where children and young people with life-limiting illnesses are helped to make their remaining time as fulfilling and joyful as possible. In addition, the children's hospice also provides support and relief for families who are under great strain due to the incurable illness or severe disability of their own child.
In cooperation with “Ackerpaten”, the aim is to give siblings a special day out. Ackerpaten offers environmental education with schools and daycare centers, farm education, children's birthday parties and team events, as well as corporate events and CSR measures, i.e. nature conservation projects with companies.
The association is committed to helping orphans in Ethiopia and supports three orphanages in order to provide the children with a safe environment, education and prospects. However, the children's home in Sebeta is currently facing an existential challenge: due to a government road construction project, a large part of the facility has had to be demolished – including school buildings, playgrounds and water points. Without state compensation, everything has to be rebuilt. The association is doing everything in its power to continue to provide the children with protection and education.
Hospiz macht Schule is a project week at elementary schools. It is carried out by previously qualified volunteers from local hospice groups in cooperation with the elementary school. The volunteers are prepared for the implementation of the project week in the training standard specially developed for the project by Bundes-Hospiz-Akademie gGmbH. The project is aimed at children in 3rd and 4th grade. In the Hospiz macht Schule project week concept, at least five or six volunteers from a hospice project visit a school class together as a team for five days. Each day of the project week focuses on a new topic.
When children experience abuse or neglect, LOOP Kinderhilfe offers them a safe home in professional foster families. The “LOOP 360°” project supports both the children and their foster parents: Vacation camps with animal-assisted education and outdoor events give the children carefree moments, while foster parents are given some breathing space. The children's social integration and resilience are strengthened through holistic support services, while the foster parents are specifically relieved.
The purpose of the association is to motivate, promote and honor schools in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics – “MINT” in German).
The LMU Entrepreneurship Center (EC) provides services for students, start-ups, companies and private individuals interested in founding a company in order to promote entrepreneurial thinking and action in business and society. The focus is on the four areas LMU EC Teaching with teaching and qualification offers, LMU EC Lab as a start-up incubator and support, LMU EC for community events and networking and LMU EC Research for entrepreneurship and start-up research.
Baker Tilly supports the activities as a partner and member of the LMU Entrepreneurship Circle.
The loss of a loved one is a profound turning point in life. The Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation offers young mourners a place to go to deal with this pain. The unique concept of grief counseling connects the bereaved with people who share a similar fate. The exchange with like-minded people helps to break through the speechlessness and find a way back into life. Whether in one-on-one counseling or group sessions – the foundation creates space for grief, hope and a gentle new beginning.
The cooperation between the football club Sportgemeinschaft Bad Soden 1911 and the disabled persons' organization Behinderten-Werk Main-Kinzig e.V. aims to take part in regular Hessian Football Association matches with a joint team in the medium term and to prepare workshop employees for sporting events such as the Special Olympics or the German Championships for Workshops for Disabled People.
This is not just about sporting activity, but also about enabling full and equal participation in club life and sporting competition, regardless of the type and severity of a disability.
The Baker Tilly Foundation has supported this active inclusion with a donation of 2,500 euros, which was handed over personally by Oliver Luksic, Member of the German Bundestag and member of the Baker Tilly Foundation Advisory Board.
JugendNotmail's suicide prevention campaign aims to break the taboo surrounding suicidal thoughts among young people and provide effective help for those affected. The initiative arose from the personal tragedy of a mother who lost her daughter to suicide.
For 2022, Baker Tilly will once again support six projects with 3,000 euros each through our Foundation as part of our annual Christmas card campaign.
"Our society thrives on the commitment of numerous associations and organizations that support the weakest members of our society. As a foundation, we can make a contribution to rewarding and maintaining this commitment through our employees’ project proposals," says Baker Tilly Sustainability Officer Prof. Dr. Martin Pätzold. To this end, we need the ideas and project proposals of all Baker Tilly employees.
Our Baker Tilly Foundation will then decide on the colleagues' project applications by December 15, 2022.
