Facebook Group: Federal Cartel Office tightens supervision of Meta

The German Federal Cartel Office assigns the digital group Meta an “outstanding cross-market significance for competition”. It is the second case of application of the new rules pursuant to Art. 19a GWB (German Act against Restraints of Competition) after Alphabet (including Google and Youtube). These are the consequences for the operator of Facebook, Instragram and WhatsApp.
After the first application case Alphabet/Google the next US tech group is now subject to stricter control in Germany: On May 4, 2022, the Federal Cartel Office formally determined that Meta (formerly Facebook) also has “outstanding cross-market significance for competition” after temporarily adversary proceedings.
